01. If I had a heart …

Conceptual portrait photograph in black and white

Photographer: Mirela | Deviantart Profile | Facebook Fanpage

My name is Mirela but I publish my photographs as Mirpi Photography, I am 39 years old, living in Zagreb, Croatia. I started with photography 11 years ago (self-taught) and all this time it has been an essential part of my life. “I am painting what touches my soul, brings tears to my eyes, and ignites my power to create. All I want is to touch you too. So feel with me. Let me take you on a ride that will take you closer to your heart and then we will…dance.“

Exhibition and Projects:

  • Exhibition on 3rd photo Biennale of Fashion Photography in Varaždin, Croatia
  • Online exhibition on Fotosofia (Croatian Photography Website)
  • Two group exhibitions in Iran which were organized by Focoart, an Iranian photography site where I am also a supervisor (Teheran, Urumia).
  • A group exhibition organized by Red Cross Croatia on the topic of Human Trafficking, Zagreb, Croatia
  • Group exhibition “The Life Before Us” which was shown in 3 galleries (Mazandaran, Tehran) in Iran and in one Art School (Mazandaran)
  • Photos published in a couple of online magazines (Fotoblur, Fotosanat (Turkish), DigitalPhoto (Croatian)), Part Magazine (Colombia), Musethouch magazine, Tema (Croatian literature magazine ).

If I had a heart“ is a photo that was taken during the photo session I had with Trycicle Trauma aerial acrobats from Zagreb, Croatia in an old abandoned factory called “Klaonica”. Our projects are always dark, mystical, and on the edge of this world and a world of legends and imagination. This photo was inspired by “Vikings” but in this case, I wanted to show unusual, strong woman, warrior, Viking queen, human and a Goddess, powerful, scary but lonely and sad. I guess I wanted to make a woman that would be a strong metaphor for all the women in today’s modern society and what they have to be to survive.

I post-process all of my photos because it’s very important for me to not only show a face or capture a moment I want to portrait a feeling, emotion, soul, to be able to achieve that, I use textures, different effects and sometimes more than one photo to get the final result. For this photo I used Canon Mark II with Canon EF 24-105mm F/4L lens, natural light, and the photo was post-processed in Photoshop CS6.

02. New adam’s apple

Girl outdoor portrait in teal dress

Photographer: Inna Mosina | Deviantart Profile | Instagram Profile

Inna Mosina is a Russian fine art photographer of 26 years old who lives and works in the city of Saratov, she graduated in law, but the call from art took her to a new path in which she is carried away by a predilection for photography, showing right from her first experiences an innate ability to create images in the middle between the ethereal, dreamlike, fantastic, and the conceptual.
.
The colors and elements that make up the scene put an emphasis on the significance of each work, as well as the faces of the women portrayed. The subjects of Inna Mosina pictures are those of women who represent the contemporary Russian culture, these are dreamy womens, reflective and melancholic, often suspended in mentioned expressions, not completely defined, they have faces that allow the viewers to create a world beyond the image that they are watching. Inna Mosina creates images full of pathos that sublime the author’s need to tell a feminine story, whether if that is of pure fiction or real.

Photo way for Inna to communicate with the outside world. She is not very communicative and secretive communication, whereas her photos are very frank and expresses her thoughts.

03. Vintage fairy

Photographer: Viktoria | Deviantart Profile | Facebook Fanpage | Instagram Profile

My name is Viktoria and I’m 23 years old. I study Analytical chemistry at the Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Slovakia. Photography, especially portrait photography, has been my passion for almost 9 years. It’s a way of expressing myself since I’m not so good with words. :) I love experimenting with colors and different ideas for each photoshoot.

This photo was taken in Hainburg an der Donau, Austria at the Castle hill. Model is my dear friend, big retro lover, Alexandra. We collaborate with RockRockabilly from UK and this was a photo shoot for their headscarf collection. It was November and really cold outside, but we were so amazed by this place that we had to take some other portraits as well.

The camera I used is Canon 5D MKII with a 50mm f1.4 lens. I used natural light and a silver reflector.

04. Stay Psychedelic! (for Witthueser + Westrupp)

Portrait photography of a girl with graffiti on wall

Photographer: Holger | Deviantart Profile | Facebook Fanpage

My name is Holger and I am an absolute amateur photographer from Munich, Germany. Since six years I am doing shootings, mainly outdoors. I try to mix sexyness with more mystical or strange aspects. Since two years I am also creating what I call “Voodoographies“: These are (often failed – I am good in that :-) ) photographies to which I add in the editing process more errors, disturbances, noise. With this alienating effect I sometimes create photos which can be more intense and in a way more magical than the normal, clean photographies.

This photo was shot on a sunny Sunday in December in front of a mural at the abattoir, one of the few places in Munich where graffitis are legal. Unfortunately, I don’t know the name of the artist – who surely contributed more than me to the impact of this photo. The model is Sylvania and it was our first shooting together. The title “Stay Psychedelic!” is obviously inspired by the mural, and the photo is dedicated to Witthüser & Westrupp, two German musicians who played some ingenious Folk-Krautrock in the ’60s and ’70s and are also heavily (heavenly?) by psychedelic culture.

I am using a very simple and old Canon 1000D, and in this photo, I experimented a bit with the analog effects from the Nik Collection, so the photo is an example for my Voodoographies, but a very subtle one: most Voodoographies are more raw and rough.

05. Lara 7

Girl sitting on a bench outdoor portrait photograph

Photographer: István | Deviantart Profile | Instagram Profile

My name is István, I am from Hungary. I am a professional model and photography is one of my hobbies. By traveling all around the world I have an opportunity to see many interesting and beautiful places and to meet with many people. I spend a lot of time with other models and if I feel like, I ask them if they want to do some pictures together, or sometimes I do test shoots with them, I like to make portraits of people, and also taking pictures on the streets of the cities I visit. And also because I work with many photographers I can learn things from them and see how they work. And from a photography standpoint, I think I am fortunate to be able to experience both sides of the camera.

This picture and the others from the series were shot in the Buda castle in Budapest on a late afternoon to be able to catch the beautiful natural light of the setting sun. Our aim with the model Laura was to create some beautiful images with a soft mood. For this picture I used my Nikon D5100 with a 50mm F 1.8 lens attached to it, I wanted a shallow depth of field for the mood but still plenty of sharpness and details so I stopped down the aperture to F 2.5 to have better sharpness and more optimal performance from the lens.

For 99℅ of post-processing I use Lightroom. Usually, my routine is fairly simple, like curves and color adjustments for enhancing the mood, cropping, and some dodging and burning.

06. Primadona 5

Love triangle of lovers portrait photograph

Photographer: Robin Alfian | Deviantart Profile | Facebook Fanpage

Hello, my name is Robin Alfian. I was born in 1985 in Indonesia in the capital city of Jakarta. I am graduated from Lasalle Inter College majoring in Visual Graphic. I started experimenting as a self tought photographer 2 years after I got graduated until a person that works in the magazine found me on social media. since then I am working full time as a photographer specializing in fashion and commercial photography.

I took this photograph a long time ago during a photoshoot in Jakarta. There’s a place called “Kota Tua” which means old city. There are a few abandoned buildings left during the dutch colonization in Indonesia. The place is well known for its architectural style and we decided it would be cool to shoot there. The shoot was done for a local magazine called “Weddingku” it’s a fashion and wedding magazine. The title of the fashion spread is “Madona“. The concept is portraying two guys in love with one woman and their journey to court the girl. For the lightning, I used 3 lights with one blue gel and yellow gel.

08. Forest Chlo I

Conceptual portrait photograph in forest

Photographer: Eudes Quittelier | Deviantart Profile

Hi, I’m Eudes Quittelier, a Colorist and Photographer based in Paris, I really like street photography and spontaneous portrait. This is an unplanned portrait of my close friend Chloé Daumal, who is a photographer too.

We just wanted to take some shots in the forest and we drive into the closest one with our good friend Pierre Durut. We saw this land with lots of cutted wood and some fog, and then Chloe took these branches and here is the shot :)

Nothing special about lightning, just natural diffused light coming from the fog. This was shot with my Leica M240 with a Voigtlander 40mm F1.4, a lovely little lens maybe at F 2.8. For post-treatment, not much. I converted the VSCO into LUT format, then I can lessen the effect of the VSCO look (maybe vista 800 without grain here).

09. Marionette

Scary conceptual portrait photograph idea

Photographer: Anja Matko | Deviantart Profile | Facebook Fanpage | 500PX Profile | Instagram Profile

I’m Anja Matko, a fine art photographer from Slovenia. My images are creative and stories that I’m presenting have a dark and surreal thematic. Inspiration for my work I get from my favorite stories, movies, life situations, feelings and emotions. Creating self-portraits became some sort of run from reality for me, where I can transfer my frustrations, ideas and thoughts into new stories.

Image “Marionette” is a self-portrait made in front of a white wall. I used natural lighting that came from the window on a cloudy day. Because I was alone I used a tripod and a wireless remote. I duck-taped two strings on the ceiling and when I was ready I wrapped them around my hands so that it looks like I’m hanging from the wall. For the final image, I had to make two different poses of the main character. One of the upper body and one of the legs in the air. I put them together in post production and make the “Marionette” levitate. In the end, I made some photos just of the white wall, which I used to expand the image into a square format. When the image was put together I choose some different textures and played with colors and curves, so that I achieved the dark and mysterious environment.

Marionette is a story about people, who are controlled by others. They act like their puppets, with no mind of their own.

This photo was taken with Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon 50 mm 1.4 lens.
