Conceptual Self-Portraits of Young and Talented Federica Santolamazza
Federica Santolamazza has found her forte as a self-portrait photographer, she has experimented with her inner thoughts via self-portrait which has become a tangible way to know more of her inner self. Mostly her Self-portrait has been captured indoor and she wisely chooses her props according to the theme of the portrait. She likes making her self-portrait herself and so does not take any assistance from others.
I need to stay alone to shoot something. Neither my parents or my oldest friend can be there in that moment. It’s really an intimate situation to me, I need to remain concentrated, focused on my feelings to express myself without restrictions – Federica says.
About Federica:
Hi, I’m Federica Santolamazza, 20 years old, self-portrait artist, based in Roma. I attend the second year to Communication Science. My approach to photography has been when I was circa 15 years old: my parents bought me a digital camera. I started the shoot with my friends everywhere and every time, without feeling a specific need to do it. Then, I realized that there was something more behind this habit.
Now, as you can see, my photographic attention moved toward me. I’ve never attended any photography course/school, even if when I graduated I’d have liked to do it.
What she has to say about her Self-portrait:
I see my self-portraits like the stream of feelings and thoughts I have in my life. Every time, I try to tell someone a short story about me; anyway, I try to bring out what I am. So I don’t really understand if there is a style in my way to shoot or not. I think there is only a peculiarity: I pay so much attention to create a sort of symbiosis between my figure and where I stand when I decide to take the picture.
Camera and Equipment She uses:
My first reflex camera was D5000, now I have also D300S and an analogic camera N70. But often I still shoot with the first one. I’m so in love with her.
A current project she’s working:
I’m working hard to gather ideas for a new important project which will be revealed maybe next winter, and I hope everything will be ok. It’s the first time I put myself in a challenge like that and I’m a little bit afraid but so so excited.
Where she draws Her Inspiration from:
I adore spending hours looking at new artists and their work. I’ve never had any preferences about them, maybe ’cause there are many brilliant people around us that it’s really impossible to decide who is better than who.
My inspirations come out through listening to music, watching films and reading books, I love it when someone advises me what to read or what you absolutely need to know about a particular artist, etc. I feed my mind with the beauty of art and every time, thanks to this, I can find out my happiness.
